The National Police has named Adj. Sr. Comr. Fajar Widyadharma Lukman, former chief of Ngada Police in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a suspect in the alleged sexual abuse of minors and of drugs misuse.
The suspect status was announced on Thursday following an investigation by the police's internal affairs division.
"His status is now a suspect. He is in National Police Criminal Investigation Department [Bareskrim] custody," Brig. Gen. Agus Wijayanto of the National Police's Internal Affairs Division (Propam) said during a press briefing on Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Aside from the criminal charges, Fajar is also accused of violating the force's code of ethics for molesting minors and recording the sexual assault to be uploaded to a pornographic website. He is also suspected of using narcotics, said National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko.
The ethics hearing against Fajar will be held on March 17, as reported by kompas.id.
Propam has had Fajar in its custody since Feb. 20, after the National Police received an alert from the Australian Police in January about the porn video uploaded by the former Ngada Police chief to the web. The alert prompted the NTT Police to open an investigation into the incident.
Investigators later discovered that Fajar allegedly assaulted three minors, aged six, 13 and 16, as well as a 20-year-old adult. They discovered that Fajar had used his personal driver's license to rent a hotel room where one of the alleged assaults took place.
Authorities also found evidence that the former local police chief had been using narcotics.
Following his detention, Fajar was suspended from his position. But an official telegram dated March 12 signed by National Police general supervision inspector Sr. Comr. Dedi Prasetyo mentioned that Fajar was transferred as a middle-ranking officer to the National Police headquarters in Jakarta.
Authorities have not confirmed any other victims of Fajar's assault so far, despite previous reports suggesting that other children were identified in separate videos allegedly made by him.
NTT Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Henry Novika Chandra has issued a public apology for the alleged crimes. He reassured the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the law.
