Jihan Ristiyanti, Jakarta – The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has requested that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to not stop investigating the bribery case involving PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto (HK).

"With the determination of HK (as suspect), it could be a step for the KPK to arrest Harun Masiku who is still at large," said ICW Coordinator Agus Sunaryanto, Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

Agus said that Hasto's alleged involvement in Harun Masiku's bribery case against the 2017-2022 General Election Commission member Wahyu Setiawan was old information. Hasto himself had been questioned by the KPK last August.

Agus said that Hasto was suspected of having been on the KPK's radar since the beginning of this case in January 2020. He said that KPK investigators at that time had followed Hasto's vehicle until they finally lost track of him at PTIK. Meanwhile, the KPK team was intimidated and held hostage by local officers.

There are a number of points that he underlined in this case. First, the determination of the PDIP Secretary General as a suspect should not stop at the bribery article. Second, the escape of Harun Masiku who is still a fugitive, according to him, is suspected of involving Hasto Kristiyanto. "In this case, of course, the potential to suspect Article 21 of the Corruption Law concerning obstruction of justice can be applied by KPK investigators," he said.

He believes that Harun Masiku's escape certainly involves many parties. So to make this case clearer and more complete, the KPK can use the instrument of the article to ensnare other parties.

In the context of determining Hasto Kristiyanto as a suspect, he also warned the KPK to prepare to face the possibility of filing a pretrial motion. He said this concern is reasonable because in the past few years, the public has seen the KPK's decline when it lost in the pretrial motion filed by corruption suspects. "Don't let the case stop at determining the suspect," said Agus.
