Daniel A. Fajri, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received the highest honor from the Government of Peru, 'The Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru.'

The Peruvian President Dina Boluarte personally presented this award during a reception at the National Palace of Peru in Lima, on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

"This is a great honor. Thank you very much, President," said Prabowo in a joint press statement after a bilateral meeting, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat.

The Presidential Secretariat mentioned in a written statement that the award bestowed upon Prabowo is 'El Sol del Peru.' Initially known as 'Orden del Sol,' the award is recognized as the highest honor in Peru, given in recognition of extraordinary services rendered to Peru and its people.

This award, with the highest rank of Grand Cross, is usually given to Heads of State from friendly nations or international figures universally acknowledged for their contributions.

"This award symbolizes the deep friendship and respect between Indonesia and Peru," the Palace wrote.

Prabowo and Boluarte held a tete-a-tete meeting to discuss the potential cooperation between Indonesia and Peru. Their respective delegation then continued a bilateral meeting focusing on strategic cooperation in various fields.

Following the meeting, Prabowo and Boluarte witnessed the signing of the Visa-Free Agreement for Diplomatic and Service Passport Holders.

Meanwhile, Boluarte underscored Peru's similarities with Indonesia in biodiversity and multiculturalism. She noted that in 2023, Indonesia was Peru's eighth-largest trading partner in Asia.

"Given the economic strength of both our nations, which continue on a path of steady growth and development, there is significant potential for new areas of cooperation," stated Boluarte as quoted by the Peruvian Government's media, Andina.
