M. Raihan Muzzaki, Jakarta – The Ministry of Manpower responded to workers' demands for an 8-10 percent increase in the minimum wage. Manpower Minister Yassierli said that the demand will be considered as per existing regulations.

"We will consider it in accordance with the applicable regulations," Yassierli said at the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

He acknowledged the concerns and assured that the government will strive to implement the wage increase if it is deemed feasible.

The Labor Party, along with several labor unions, staged a demonstration on October 24, 2024, to demand an 8-10% minimum wage increase and the revocation of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation.

Said Iqbal, President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labor Party, warned that if the government does not address these demands, further actions, including a national strike, may follow.

Iqbal argued that workers have not received a wage increase in five years, despite rising inflation and economic growth.
