Medikantyo Adhikresna, Jakarta – The Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) projects motorcycle sales in Indonesia to hit 6.7 million units next year, up from an expected 6.5 million units by the end of 2024.

"This year's sales target is estimated between 6.35 and 6.45 million units, hopefully reaching 6.5 million. We estimate demand next year to range from 6.4 to 6.7 million units," AISI Chairman Johannes Loman said at the Indonesia Motorcycle Show (IMOS) 2024 on Wednesday.

Motorcycle sales for January through September 2024 totaled 4.87 million units, marking a 3.19 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza said that IMOS 2024 signifies growth for Indonesia's motorcycle sector, especially given global economic uncertainties. "Motorcycle sales in Indonesia have increased compared to last year – an impressive achievement. On behalf of the government, I thank the two-wheeler manufacturers for their significant contribution to the country," he said.

In contrast, the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) recently lowered its 2024 car sales target from 1.1 million to 850,000 units.

IMOS 2024, running until November 3, hosts over 60 brands, including Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, and TVS. The exhibition showcases a range of motorcycles from gas-powered to electric models, featuring brands like Harley-Davidson, Hunter, Scomadi, Polytron, Alva, Royal Enfield, Volta, and ION Mobility.
