Ervana Trikarinaputri, Ahmad Faiz Ibnu Sani, Jakarta – Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) recorded state losses due to corruption cases during two periods of President Joko Widodo 's administration, at least amounting to Rp 290 trillion.
ICW's Political Corruption Division staff member, Yassar Aulia, conveyed this during the last Kamisan action before Jokowi stepped down on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
"Jokowi has allowed this country to be robbed of at least Rp 290 trillion by corruptors," said Yassar in his reflection at the 836th Kamisan Action held across from Istana Merdeka, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon.
He recounted that the closest people Jokowi trusted as ministers successively contributed to corruption cases.
During Jokowi's leadership, six ministers were prosecuted and imprisoned for corruption. They are the Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate, the Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari Batubara, the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo, the Minister of Social Affairs Idrus Marham, and the Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi.
Yassar explained that President Jokowi's contribution to the movement of corruption cases goes beyond the statistics of corruption crimes or the state loss figures. "The ecosystem he has built over these ten years has practically returned our country to a corruption context similar to the New Order era."
According to Yassar, the position of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) weakened during Jokowi's government. "It is in Jokowi's era that the KPK was destroyed," he said.
He highlighted Jokowi's actions in letting dozens of progressive KPK employees be dismissed through nationality tests.
Furthermore, Yassar considered the irony in President Jokowi's government. During Jokowi's era, former KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri was arrested for corruption. Firli was allegedly extorting the former Defense Minister SYL, who was also involved in corruption cases.
