Zhulfakar, Jakarta – It will be up to President-Elect Prabowo Subianto to decide on when the government should begin moving its civil servants to the new capital Nusantara, according to Bureaucratic Reforms Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas.
The government initially planned to have some civil servants start working from the new capital in September.
However, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo decided to postpone the starting date as he wanted to have all the necessary infrastructure ready. Following these postponements, the ball is now in Prabowo's court as he is set to take office later this month.
"Even so, we have prepared some scenarios regarding the civil servants' relocation to the new capital," Azwar Anas told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Azwar said Jokowi had instructed the government to finish the ecosystem. While some of the civil servants' apartment units have finished construction, other infrastructure projects – including the digital systems – remain a work in progress.
"Over 500 apartment units are actually done, but the road infrastructure is still quite dusty," the minister said.
He added: "We will continue to work on the preparations, including the facilities, offices, and other infrastructures. But I think [these projects] have made quite a remarkable progress."
