Dian Rahma Fika, Jakarta – The Indonesian capital, Jakarta, experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon, September 25, resulting in flooding in one residential area (RT) and two road sections. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that a residential area in Lubang Buaya, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, was inundated.

"The current flooding has affected 1 residential area, representing 0.003 percent of the 30,772 residential areas in the Jakarta region," said Adji Isnawa, Head of the Jakarta BPBD, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Adji attributed the flooding to the heavy rainfall that overwhelmed the drainage channels, causing water levels to rise as high as 90 centimeters.

In addition, two road sections in South Jakarta were also impacted by the flooding. Jalan Raya Ciledug in Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama Sub-district, experienced flooding up to 20 centimeters deep. Similarly, Jalan Kemang Utara IX in Bangka was inundated to a depth of 25 centimeters.

The Jakarta BPBD promptly responded to the reports of waterlogging by deploying officers to assess the situation and anticipate further flooding. The agency collaborated with village heads and sub-district heads to address the flooding as swiftly as possible.

"The Jakarta BPBD has mobilized personnel to monitor waterlogging conditions in each region and coordinate with the Regional Public Works Agency, the Bina Marga Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency, to pump water and ensure proper drainage function," Adji added.

Based on the early weather warning issued for the Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek area, the Jakarta BPBD anticipated moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or strong winds from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. WIB.

Although the rain is expected to subside after 7 p.m. WIB, the Jakarta BPBD urges the public to remain vigilant and prepared for potential waterlogging. "In emergencies, please call 112. This service is free and available 24 hours a day," Adji concluded.
