Teguh Adi Prasetyo, Jakarta – A total of 8.2 million voters in Jakarta are set to cast their ballots at nearly 15,000 polling stations in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

The number of polling stations has been reduced by more than half compared to the voting booths available during the general election in February.

The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) assured on Sunday that the remaining polling stations would be able to accommodate all voters despite the significant reduction.

"It's true that the total number of polling stations will be around 50 percent fewer than in the previous election. This is because the maximum number of voters per station has been doubled, from 300 to 600," said Astri Megatari, a Jakarta KPU official.

According to KPU data, female voters outnumber male voters in this election, with 4.2 million women compared to 4 million men.

East Jakarta has the largest number of registered voters, totaling 2.73 million, while the Thousand Islands regency has the fewest, with fewer than 21,000 voters.

Below is the distribution of registered voters across Jakarta's regions:

  • Thousand Islands: 20,908
  • Central Jakarta: 813,721
  • North Jakarta: 1,345,815
  • West Jakarta: 1,909,774
  • South Jakarta: 1,748,961
  • East Jakarta: 2,374,828
