Nandito Putra, Jakarta – The Indonesian Labor Party will declare its support for the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka's government, as confirmed by party leader Said Iqbal.
According to Iqbal, the declaration of support will be read directly in the presence of President-elect Prabowo. "The Labor Party, the labor union, and Indonesian workers will declare our support directly to Prabowo Subianto," he said on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Despite not having any seats in the parliament, Said Iqbal claims the Labor Party's support for the government is purely for the sake of the improvement of workers, farmers, and fishers' welfare. The decision, Iqbal said, is one taken without bribes.
"There was no bargaining, no deal, it's purely Labor Party putting its hope on Prabowo Subianto as the next president of Indonesia," he said.
Iqbal said the Labor Party will convey six considerations for Prabowo's administration. The party will ask Prabowo Subianto to review the Job Creation Law, especially concerning manpower, and to erase the outsourcing policy.
"We also hope Mr. Prabowo will fight for living wages, agrarian reform, and food sovereignty," said Iqbal.
Additionally, Iqbal said the party hopes for Prabowo to realize food sovereignty and appoint honorary teachers as Civil Servants. "Lastly, we hope for the realization of free education up to the higher education," he said.
Prabowo would attend the Labor Party's third anniversary this afternoon at Istora Senayan, Jakarta. The president-elect will deliver a speech in front of the Labor Party's cadres and supporters.
"Mr. Prabowo's attendance has been confirmed. He will deliver a speech at around half past three (03:30 p.m. Jakarta Time)," Iqbal said.
Iqbal said the Labor Party's commemoration of its third year in politics was taken from the moment of the party's revival on October 5, 2021, after previously being sidelined from the political scene.
The Job Creation Law's ratification was supported by parties that currently back Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Reflecting on this, Iqbal believes Prabowo will make a breakthrough during his administration.
"We believe Prabowo will side with workers. Hopefully, we could see the results at least 100 days within Prabowo's term," the Labor Party leader said.
