Sella Rizky Deviani, Nusantara – President-Elect Prabowo Subianto pledged to continue the construction of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara, during an emotional cabinet meeting on Friday.
The meeting, which marked the final session of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration, signaled a smooth transition of presidential power, according to Chief Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
President Jokowi led the meeting in Nusantara, thanking his cabinet members for their dedication and offering apologies for any shortcomings during his tenure.
Prabowo took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the president for his decade of leadership, Luhut said.
"On behalf of myself as the president-elect and my colleagues, we thank you for your leadership," Prabowo said, according to Luhut.
The cabinet members applauded, and President Jokowi appeared visibly moved by the moment, Luhut added.
Prabowo also vowed to prioritize the construction of key government buildings, including facilities for the national legislature, police, and military, to expedite the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to Nusantara.
"[Prabowo] cautioned against any attempts to create division between him and President Jokowi, stressing that the nation is on a clear path to becoming a developed country. We all agreed on the importance of unity," Luhut said.
