Jakarta – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators on Tuesday grilled Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto as a witness in its investigation into an alleged corruption case at the Transportation Ministry's railways directorate general (DJKA).
Speaking to reporters after his questioning, Hasto said the investigators interrogated him about his acquaintance with former railways infrastructure director Harno Trimadi, who is in prison for his role in the case.
Hasto said he told the investigators that he could not remember whether he had ever met Harno.
"I don't have a memory of meeting him because as a secretary-general, I met so many people that it is hard to remember them all," Hasto said, as quoted from Kompas.
In December of last year, the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced former railways infrastructure director Harno to five years and seven months in prison for accepting bribes in relation to railway maintenance projects in Java and Sumatra for the 2022 fiscal year.
Hasto failed to show up last week when the KPK summoned him for questioning as a witness.
In addition to Hasto, the KPK had questioned several other witnesses, including Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi. (jan)
