List of President Jokowi's relatives having prestigious roles in state-owned firms, government

Daniel A. Fajri, Hendrik Khoirul Muhid, Ikhsan Reliubun, Jakarta – The extended family of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has been in the public limelight. After his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, was elected vice president, reports have surfaced that his relatives have assumed prestigious roles in state-owned companies and the government. Read on to discover them.

1. Sigit Widyawan (Brother-in-law)

Sigit Widyawan, the husband of Jokowi's cousin, is currently serving his second term as an independent commissioner of state lender PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI). Sigit is married to Nining Roni Widyaningsih, the daughter of the eldest sister of Jokowi's mother, Sujiatmi.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo confirmed that Sigit was first appointed in March 2018 during the annual general meeting based on his competence, experience, and other professional factors.

2. Joko Priyambodo (Nephew)

Joko Priyambodo was appointed as Director of Marketing and Operations of PT Patra Logistik – a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina on May 20, 2024. He is the son of Idayati and Anwar Usman's son-in-law.

3. Bagaskara Ikhlasulla Arif (Nephew)

Bagaskara Ikhlasulla Arif, the son of Jokowi's youngest sister Titik Relawati and Arif Budi Sulistyo, was tapped as Manager of Non-Government Relations at PT Pertamina in March 2024. He previously held a top position at state lender PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI).

4. Bobby Nasution (Son-in-law)

Bobby Nasution has been the Mayor of Medan since February 26, 2021. He is married to Jokowi's sole daughter, Kahiyang Ayu. He is also the deputy chairman of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association or HIPMI and plans to run in the North Sumatra regional election this year with the support of the Gerindra Party.

5. Anwar Usman (Brother-in-law)

Anwar Usman served as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) for the period 2023-2028. He is the husband of Jokowi's sister, Idayati.

In 2023, he issued a controversial decision that changed the presidential age limit, paving the way for his nephew, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to run in the 2024 presidential election and eventually be elected vice president.

The Constitutional Court's Honorary Council (MKMK) thus imposed a sanction of dismissal on him on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

6. Kaesang Pangarep (Son)

Kaesang Pangarep, Jokowi's youngest son, joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) on September 23, 2023, and was immediately inaugurated as the party's chairperson on September 25, 2023, for the 2023-2028 period, replacing Giring Ganesha. At present, he is rumored to be running in the 2024 Jakarta regional election, particularly after the Supreme Court revised the age requirements for regional head candidates, which is seen as a red carpet for him.

7. Gibran Rakabuming Raka (Son)

Gibran Rakabuming Raka was declared the elected vice president of the 2024 presidential election and will serve alongside Prabowo Subianto for the 2024-2029 term. Prabowo and Gibran will be sworn in on October 20, 2024. Jokowi's eldest son currently serves as the Mayor of Solo.
