Antara, Mojokerto, East Java – A policewoman in the East Java town of Mojokerto has been named a suspect for burning her police officer husband alive, leading to his death a day later.

The suspect, a first brigadier identified by the initials FN, reportedly doused her husband with gasoline while having him handcuffed to a ladder inside the garage of their residence and then lit a match on Saturday.

The victim, First Brigadier Rian Dwi Wicaksono, succumbed to his injuries at Mojokerto Municipal Hospital on Sunday, suffering burns over 96 percent of his body, police said.

The couple lived in the Mojokerto Police housing complex.

"First Brigadier FN has been named a suspect and taken into custody. She is charged with domestic violence," East Java Police spokesman Dirmanto said in Surabaya on Sunday.

Mojokerto Police Chief Daniel Somanusa Marunduri indicated that the incident was triggered by a domestic altercation but did not elaborate.

Local media reports said the policewoman became angry after checking her husband's bank account and discovering that he had spent Rp 2 million of his annual bonus of Rp 2.8 million.

She reportedly ordered her husband to come home, stripped him of his uniform, and handcuffed him before dousing him with gasoline. The husband remained defenseless and calm, apparently not expecting his wife to escalate the situation.

Several witnesses saw the incident, intervened to extinguish the fire, and rushed him to the hospital.
