Yustinus Patris Paat, Jakarta – The political parties that formed the coalition supporting Prabowo Subianto's bid for the presidency are set to reunite for the upcoming Jakarta gubernatorial election, a senior politician said on Thursday.
The Advanced Indonesia Coalition has already selected candidates for the Jakarta governor position, although their names cannot be immediately disclosed, said Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, acting chairman of Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
"Mr. Prabowo has emphasized the importance of winning local elections in strategic provinces, including Jakarta. We have several candidates for governor and vice governor, based on consensus among the parties within the coalition," Dasco told reporters in Jakarta.
"The Advanced Indonesia Coalition is committed to a full-fledged effort to secure victory," he added.
According to him, the names of the candidates will be revealed next month.
Gerindra leads the coalition, which also includes the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), and the Democratic Party.
Dasco urged Gerindra councilors, governors, mayors, and members of the House of Representatives to unite in "ensuring victory in Jakarta."
The capital city is currently led by a presidential appointee after the previous governor, Anies Baswedan, completed his term in 2022.Anies lost to Prabowo in the February 14 presidential election and he is widely expected to seek reelection in Jakarta.
Indonesians are set to elect governors, mayors, and regents across the country simultaneously on November 27.
