Riri Rahayu, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated the Tiu Suntuk Dam in West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Thursday, May 2. Jokowi said the dam was built with a budget of Rp1.4 trillion.
The dam inauguration ceremony, which was broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, was marked by the turning of a miniature sluice wheel and the signing of an inscription by Jokowi.
The president said the Tiuk Suntuk dam had a capacity of 60.8 million cubic meters. He said the dam can irrigate 1,900 hectares of land, produce raw water at a rate of 680 liters per second, and is capable of reducing flooding in West Sumbawa.
Jokowi said water is the key to life in the face of climate change. Water is also very important for life, especially in NTB. "Whether it's for agriculture, water, raw materials, drinking water," he said.
Therefore, Jokowi said, the government has built 7 dams in NTB in the last 10 years. "Only in NTB. Most of them. And Tiuk Suntuk Dam is now one of the big dams," he said.
During his working visit to NTB this time, Jokowi also inaugurated the 40.6-kilometer regional road in NTB, which was built based on Presidential Instruction (Inpres). The road includes 5 roads in West Lombok, West Sumbawa, Sumbawa, and Bima regencies.
