Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto, the president-elect and Gerindra Party chief patron, met with the National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar at the PKB office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, April 24, just a few hours after the General Elections Commission (KPU) proclaimed him and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the winners of the 2024 presidential election.

The closed-door meeting between the two political leaders, which lasted for about an hour, focused on the prospects of cooperation between Gerindra and PKB after the elections.

"PKB and Gerindra have been working together in both the legislative and executive and will aim to continue working together more productively," Muhaimin said in a press conference on Wednesday, April 24.

Furthermore, Muhaimin emphasized that the upcoming government will face various development challenges in the future, and expressed his belief that the public hopes for cooperation between political parties after the presidential contest is over. He therefore expected PKB and Gerindra to work together in various fields, including the legislative.

The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives also said that he had presented eight PKB agendas for changes to Prabowo, who is set to become the eighth president of Indonesia.

As known, Muhaimin ran as the running mate of Anies Baswedan of the Coalition for Change in the 2024 presidential election. Meanwhile, Prabowo and his running mate, Gibran Rakabumin Raka, were endorsed by parties from the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM).

In the press conference, Prabowo seconded Muhaimin's statement. "PKB wants to continue working with Gerindra, with Prabowo Subianto, to serve the interests of all our people," said the former commander of the Army's Special Forces.

Prabowo praised Muhaimin for maintaining a positive outlook despite the close and heated contest and stressed that competition followed by cooperation is the hope of the Indonesian people. "Now we have to look forward," he remarked.

However, neither Muhaimin nor Prabowo made it explicit that a coalition agreement had been reached between the two parties, and PKB is yet to confirm whether or not it will join Prabowo's government after the latter's inauguration on October 20.
