Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta (Antara) – Presidential candidate number three Ganjar Pranowo believes that the submission of amicus curiae or "friends of the court" by Indonesia's Fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri will encourage the Constitutional Court (MK) to decide the 2024 presidential election dispute more fairly.

According to Ganjar Megawati is among the people and groups who also submitted amicus curiae to the Court.

"This is an extraordinary momentum for the Constitutional Court to restore its dignity," Ganjar said on Tuesday in Jakarta.

Ganjar said he and Megawati understood that amicus curiae would not affect the verdict, but could encourage the Court to consider the case justly.

Previously, Megawati Soekarnoputri submitted a letter of Amicus Curiae to the Constitutional Court represented by the Secretary-General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto and Chairman of the DPP PDIP Djarot Syaiful Hidayat.

The Amicus Curiae letter was submitted at the Constitutional Court Building II, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

"I'm here to submit the "Friend of the Court" opinion of an Indonesian citizen, Mrs Megawati Soekarnoputri," said Hasto.

He then showed and read Megawati's handwriting on the back page of the letter containing several considerations to the Constitutional Justices.

"Dear Indonesian people, let us pray that the Constitutional Court's gavel is not a sledgehammer, but a golden one. As Kartini said in 1911: "After darkness, comes light", so that the dawn of democracy that we have fought for long ago will rise again and be remembered by generations of Indonesians," Hasto said, reading Megawati's writing.
