Antara, Jakarta – Talks on a meeting between the president-elect and Chairman of Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, and the Chairwoman of PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri, has garnered responses from both parties.
The planned meeting has been a topic of public discussion in recent times, yet there is still no certainty as to when the meeting will take place.
News of the planned meeting between Prabowo and Megawati has sparked various speculations. One of them is the possibility of PDIP joining the Indonesia Maju Coalition (Koalisi Indonesia Maju – KIM), a coalition of political parties supporting the Prabowo-Gibran pair, in the next government.
Gerindra party politician Dahnil Anzar: Just a matter of time
Gerindra Party politician Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak believes that a meeting between PDIP Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri and Gerindra Party Chairman and president-elect Prabowo Subianto will soon take place.
According to him, the meeting between the two political party leaders is only a matter of time. "God's Willing, they will meet, it's just a matter of time," Dahnil said when contacted from Jakarta on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
Previously, Secretary-General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto stated that the most appropriate moment for a meeting between Prabowo and Megawati is after the resolution of the election dispute at the Constitutional Court (MK).
"Considering that these stages are still ongoing, for Mrs. Mega and Mr. Prabowo, there is no issue in meeting, but of course, the right momentum is after the entire process of the MK and legal processes carried out by PDIP," said Hasto when met by the media in the Cikini area, Jakarta, on Tuesday, April 2.
PDIP politician Aria Bima: (Megawati) will decide
In response to the news, PDIP politician Aria Bima said that a meeting between Prabowo Subianto and Megawati Soekarnoputri will depend on Megawati. "I have been a member of the DPR for 20 years, I have studied Bu Mega well," he said in Solo, Central Java, on Monday, April 8, 2024.
He said Megawati has a character that cannot be pressured or dictated by circumstances. "She has quite precise calculations, including whether or not to meet with Mr. Prabowo," he said.
This member of the PDIP faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives believes Megawati has precise calculations.
"The first thing, if it is necessary to meet with Mr. Prabowo, the timing should not be fixed. For example, it should not be before the MK decision or after the MK," he said.
He mentioned that Megawati is not the type of individual who can be determined by others, but rather she determines things herself. "Including when to meet whom and when. She decides," he said.
At the end of March, Deputy Chairman of PDIP's Central Executive Board, Puan Maharani, spoke about the possibility of a meeting between Megawati and Prabowo after the announcement of the 2024 Presidential Election results by the General Election Commission.
