Muhammad Aulia, Jakarta – Former high-ranking customs official Andhi Pramono was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday after the court found him guilty of corruption.
The panel of judges said Andhi had accepted around Rp 59 billion in bribes between 2012 and 2023 while he held managerial posts in the customs directorate's district offices. Presiding judge Djuyamto ordered Andhi to remain in detention during the appeal process.
Unlike many other graft cases, the criminal probe against Andhi began from suspicions about his mandatory financial disclosure as a state official.
His latest disclosure in February 2022 revealed that he has personal wealth worth Rp 13.7 billion, mostly comprising lands and buildings.
Andhi was named a corruption suspect in May last year over alleged undeclared wealth, following a public inquiry triggered by his social media posts flaunting luxurious vehicles and a lavish lifestyle as the head of the customs office in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi.
After the verdict hearing, the Corruption Eradication Commission announced it had seized assets worth Rp 76 billion ($4.8 million) from Andhi, who is facing separate money laundering charges.
Ali said that most recently, the KPK found lands measuring 2,597 square meters in Banyuasin regency, South Sumatra, believed to be Andhi's hidden asset. "We have placed a seizure notice at the location," Ali said.
