KPU reports 82 percent voter turnout in 2024 presidential election

Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – The General Election Commission (KPU) Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari announced that the voter turnout for the 2024 presidential and legislative elections stood at 81.78 percent, showing a slight decrease from the 81.97 percent recorded in the 2019 elections.

This information was disclosed by Hasyim during a meeting with the House of Representatives' Commission II, the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu), the Ethics Council for Election Organizers (DKPP), and the Home Affairs Minister to evaluate the 2024 elections at the Parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.

"The national vote count for the presidential election was 164,227,475 valid votes, with a voter turnout rate of 81.78 percent," stated Hasyim Asy'ari.

Meanwhile, for the 2024 legislative elections (Pileg), Hasyim mentioned that the voter turnout rate was 81.42 percent, slightly lower than the 81.69 percent recorded in 2019. The total valid votes for the national legislative election for members of the House of Representatives amounted to 151,796,631 votes distributed across 84 electoral districts.

On Wednesday, March 20, the KPU officially announced the outcomes of the 2024 elections. In the 2024 presidential election, the candidate pair of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka emerged victorious with a total of 96,214,691 votes, accounting for 58.83 percent of the total.

The candidate pair of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar secured second place with 40,971,906 votes, constituting 25.05 percent of the total votes cast. Meanwhile, the candidate pair of Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD attained the third position, garnering a total of 27,040,878 votes, equivalent to 16.53 percent of the total votes.
