Adi Warsono, Bekasi – Dozens of Commuter Line or KRL users laid flowers on the broken escalator at Bekasi Station on Wednesday evening, Jan. 31. They took this action as a protest against the rail operator PT KAI Commuter that the moving stairway has been out of service for 100 days and has not been repaired yet to date.
The flower wreath reading "Condolences for the Death of the Bekasi Station Escalator" was placed near the escalator. They also put a cardboard box resembling a tomb covered with flowers.
"We brought flower bouquets and created a grave. Our friends also laid flowers and we prayed there. We pray that KAI will serve the public better," said a KRL user from South Tangerang, Berlian Idris, 47, at Bekasi Station on Wednesday.
Tempo observed that dozens of KRL users were seen giving roses to other KRL users passing by the station to place in front of the broken escalator, which is located at the entrance to Bekasi Station via Jalan Perjuangan. There is a sign indicating that the escalator is under repair.
"We have good intentions. We don't want to embarrass the KAI, so this is not aimed at embarrassing certain parties, especially the KAI. We only want better public services," Berlian added.
A Commuter Line user from Bekasi, Mega, 26, claimed that she had often complained to the KAI via social media about the escalator which has been broken since October 2023. "They just said that they will repair it soon, but we don't know when it will be fixed," she said.
