Bella Evanglista, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo dismissed speculations of mass resignations within his cabinet, saying on Saturday that all ministers are dedicated to their roles and actively participating in coordinating meetings.
Jokowi's response follows remarks by prominent economist Faisal Basri, who suggested the potential resignation of 15 cabinet members due to reported disagreements with Jokowi's support for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto.
Speaking at an event at Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, the president said his ministers maintain a professional stance and continue to collaborate seamlessly.
"We still have meetings with some or all ministers almost every day," Jokowi said during an event commemorating the 101st anniversary of the Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama. He expressed bewilderment over the circulating rumors, noting the continued regular internal and plenary meetings with ministers.
Jokowi speculated that these rumors might be part of the dynamics leading up to the upcoming election, where his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is set to run as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Prabowo.
Amid the political landscape, a key cabinet member, Chief Security Minister Mohammad Mahfud, is also in contention as the running mate for presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo.
Furthermore, many of Jokowi's ministers hail from the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which has nominated Ganjar for the presidency.
