Riri Rahayu, Han Revanda Putra, Antara, Jakarta – The spokesperson for Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Eddy Soeparno, claimed that he is surprised that any presidential candidate plans to evaluate the Job Creation Law.
According to him, the political parties backing these candidates supported the promulgation of the controversial law. "Hence, I want to know how consistent the running pairs are regarding this issue," he said on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024.
The House of Representatives reached a consensus to release the Job Creation Government Regulation In Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022. This regulation was backed by 7 factions, namely PDIP, NasDem Party, Golkar Party, PKB, Gerindra Party, PAN, and PPP. The only opposing parties are PKS and Demokrat.
Eddy believes Job Creation Law is not a perfect legal instrument, However, he claimed that it is "the best legal instrument we have for now to accelerate and defend Indonesia's interest from the aspects of natural resource, human resource, downstream, and the industry."
Earlier, running presidential pair Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md claimed that they would evaluate the Job Creation Law if elected in the upcoming general elections. According to Ganjar, something is wrong with the instrument.
"We must review the law, whether we will implement enterprise regime, wages regime, or others," he said on December 14 as quoted by Antara.
A similar notion was brought up by Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, presidential pair number two. Anies claimed that he would review the Job Creation Law if elected as president.
According to him, the permit facilitation in the omnibus law only benefits big companies while small businesses will not be affected. Anies Muhaimin spokesperson Irvan Pulungan also said the law is one of their priority evaluation since the conception was not excellent in any way.
"Citizen participation is beyond minimum, same with the academic report," he said on Tuesday.
