Jakarta – State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) transported 3,505,787 passengers during the Christmas and New Year period, which was from December 21 to January 7. This brings the number of passengers to an average of 194,766 per day during the period.
"This is an increase by 27 percent compared to the 2022/23 Christmas period where KAI served 2,751,598 passengers," KAI president director Didiek Hartantyo said in a written statement quoted Monday, January 8.
Didiek said that the increase in the number of passengers was influenced by the increase in the number of train (KA) trips with 6,522 (local and long distance) recorded, a 21 increase from the previous year's Christmas and New Year period.
Didiek said the peak passenger volume in the 2023/2024 Christmas period occurred on Saturday, December 23, with 233,554 passengers boarding.
He added that during the holiday period, the on time performance (OTP) of train departures reached 99.3 percent, while train arrivals' OTP rate was 98.2 percent.
