News Desk, Jakarta – A member of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka's campaign team for the Central Java chapter, Mawahib Afkar, said the presidential ticket was determined to achieve food self-sufficiency by expanding farmlands.
"We are moving together with the farmers to realize food self-sufficiency, by increasing the productivity of agricultural land through various land intensification and extensification programs," Mawahib said on Wednesday as quoted by state news agency Antara.
Mawahib, who is a representative of the Kudus Farmers Alliance, said the farmland expansion was crucial in maintaining the nation's food security in the face of emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and can also improve the economy of the people, especially for farmers.
Mawahib claimed that the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair could pay special attention to the development of the agricultural sector, particularly by involving the younger generation.
"Food is the lifeline of a nation. The current demographic bonus must be supported by adequate food availability. That way, it will not become a crucial problem in the future," he added.
Head of the Kudus Farmers Alliance Hawi Sukamto said that thousands of farmers who joined the alliance declared their support for the Prabowo-Gibran pair following a Kudus Farmers' Declaration of Support for Prabowo event in Kudus Regency last month.
"We also invite all relatives, family, neighbors, farmers, Kudus Regency residents and Indonesian people in general, so that victory for Prabowo Subianto can be achieved in the 2024 presidential election," said Hawi, as quoted by Detik.
