Faisal Maliki Baskoro, Jakarta – During the inaugural vice-presidential debate for the 2024 election, Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin, introduced the term "slepetnomics" as a means to achieve sustainable economic development in Indonesia.

The term "slepet" is understood as "to slap or to strike with a piece of cloth." Muhaimin, who is Anies Baswedan's running mate, describes "slepet" as a symbolic gesture using a sarong to awaken those who are dormant, invigorate those who are lethargic, and remind those who are forgetful.

"Slepetnomics is an idea originating from the Anies-Muhaimin pair, serving as a solution to economic injustice. The sarong serves as a symbol of equality and justice. The sarong is soft, but in the hands of a good person, it can become a slap for injustice," Muhaimin said during his closing statement at the debate held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Friday.

According to Cak Imin, Indonesia's policies is lacking the courage to establish fair regulations and stand firmly with the people.

Expanding on this, he advocated for a shift in focus, suggesting that projects excessively utilizing public funds to cater to specific interests should be subject to a 'slepet' intervention.

"We must usher in change by promoting balanced development in both urban and rural areas. Going forward, we must 'slepet' any dishonesty in formulating regulations that prioritize business entities. Let's foster equality for all entrepreneurs to thrive," he said.

Muhaimin previously said that if he was elected as the next government, he would turn at least 40 existing cities to be on par with Jakarta, rejecting the National Capital Nusantara project. "These cities should strive for a healthy environment and comfortable living spaces for all residents," he said.

Cak Imin is committed to supporting these cities, ensuring that residential access is conveniently located near workplaces.
