Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto extends his lead to more than 20 points over his rivals in the run-up to the February 14 election, according to a poll released on Sunday.

Prabowo's electability has been on a steady rise since he picked Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko Widodo, as his running mate in October.

The poll, conducted by Indikator Politik Indonesia shows that 45.8 percent of respondents will vote for Prabowo and Gibran.

Ganjar Pranowo, the early front-runner in various polls before the president's son jumped ship for the Prabowo camp, is now ranked second with 25.6 percent of votes.

Ganjar, who teams up with Chief Security Minister Mohammad Mahfud, is nominated by the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), of which Gibran was a member until the dramatic turnaround in October.

The last pairing of Anies Baswedan and running mate Muhaimin Iskandar received 22.8 percent of the votes.

The remaining 5.9 percent of respondents remain undecided.

Indikator Politik's lead researcher Burhanuddin Muhtadi said the support for Prabowo and Gibran has increased sharply from 39.7 percent in the previous survey conducted on October 27-November 1.

"On the other hand, the pairings of Ganjar-Mahfud and Anies-Muhaimin saw their support declining," Burhanuddin said.

The latest survey was conducted from November 23 to December 1 involving 1,200 eligible voters across all provinces, with the margin of error at plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
