Aisyah Amira Wakang, Jakarta – The Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is still investigating alleged campaign violations committed by vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming, who is accused of involving children in the 2024 presidential campaign.
Previously, Gibran was seen inviting children to join him on his campaign stage and giving them books and milk in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Friday, December 1, 2023.
Benny Sabdo, the coordinator of the Jakarta Bawaslu's Violation Handling Division, said that North Jakarta Bawaslu was still thoroughly investigating this incident. "[We are] investigating it," he told Tempo on Monday, Dec. 4.
Benny confirmed that election participants are prohibited from involving children during campaigning under KPU Regulation No. 7 of 2022 on voter lists and voter data information systems.
Meanwhile, amid the ongoing investigation, Gibran's other action has also come under public scrutiny. The eldest son of President Joko Jokowi Widodo distributed free milk at the Jakarta Car Free Day event on Sunday, December 3, 2023.
The Central Jakarta Bawaslu, Benny continued, was investigating the alleged campaign violation in this activity. "In principle, the CFD area cannot be used for campaign activities, whether for presidential or vice presidential candidates or legislative candidates," he added.
However, Gibran Rakabuming denied campaigning during the weekly CFD event. "There are no campaign attributes," he said in Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, adding that he did not call on people to vote for him.
