Fath Putra Mulya, Resinta Sulistiyandari, Jakarta – National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, signed a Declaration of TNI-Polri Neutrality Commitment in the 2024 General Election in Jakarta on Monday.
During the declaration signing, the two generals were accompanied by Chairman of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Rahmat Bagja, and members of the National Coordination Meeting of the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) held by Bawaslu.
General Prabowo said that the declaration demonstrated the two parties' commitment to securing the election with neutrality. He expressed hope that the community would also work together to maintain peace during the election period.
"I already signed the declaration. The people should not be provoked by hoaxes that can divide our unity," he reminded.
Since Indonesia is a big country, he emphasized that maintaining unity and integrity in the midst of differences in political choices is the top priority.
"We must be able to maintain unity amid different political choices. This is also our capital to become a developed country," he stated.
Meanwhile, TNI Commander General Subiyanto remarked that active TNI soldiers should not engage in practical politics. Those who violate it as written in Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI and Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections will be punished.
"If active TNI personnel practice practical politics, there will be criminal penalties or warnings from their leader," he remarked.
In addition, he noted that the TNI and Polri aim to make peace declarations in every region in Indonesia to maintain synergy in securing elections.
"With this declaration, we hope the election will run safely and smoothly," Subiyanto remarked.
