Muhammad Iqbal, Jakarta – Hundreds of houses in Pesona Serpong Housing, Setu District, South Tangerang City, were flooded on Wednesday as the levels of Cisadane River rose and overflowed its banks, inundating areas with a height estimated at 60 centimeters, prompting some residents to evacuate.

The overflowing Cisadane River began inundating housing in Serpong since early Wednesday morning, November 22. Officers from the South Tangerang City's Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) were on stand-by, as the area directly borders the river body.

"Based on the report we received, the flood started at around 01:20. Officers went to the location and brought rubber boats," the city's BPBD head for Emergency and Logistics, M. Faridzal Gumay, said on Wednesday.

Gumay said that because the level of inundation reached up to 60 cm in some areas, some residents chose to evacuate. He said that 885 people are affected by the river flooding.

"In total, 177 households are affected by this flood. Some have evacuated to temporary shelters since early morning, assisted by officers," he said, adding that there were no casualties and officers were still on standby at the location.
