Kukuh S. Wibowo, Jakarta – The General Elections Commission (KPU) member Mochammad Afifuddin mentioned that the commission deployed 74 personnel to safeguard the three pairs of presidential-vice presidential candidates ahead of the 2024 general elections.
"The security and safeguarding team consist of 74 personnel," Afif said in Jakarta as quoted by Antara on Monday.
According to Afif, the instruction for these safeguarding personnel has been issued by the head of the National Police's Maintenance and Security Agency General Commissioner Fadil Imran.
The deployment of these personnel was provided in Presidential Regulation No. 85 of 2018 concerning the Security and Safeguarding of Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates during General Elections.
Afif explained that the police have delegated 444 personnel and supporting equipment to KPU which proceeded to assign the safeguarding team for the presidential-vice presidential candidates in accordance with the existing regulation.
Earlier, KPU officially announced the three running pairs for the presidential-vice presidential election 2024. The determination was based on the verification process and medical check-ups conducted by the candidates. Prior to naming the candidates KPU first conducted a closed plenary session.
"The three pairs of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, are determined to have fulfilled the requirements to become the running candidates of the 2024 general elections," said KPU member Idham Holik in his office.
