Antara, Jakarta – Infiltration wells remain the top choice to prevent flooding in Jakarta. The city government of Central Jakarta, for example, mandates the owners or management of office buildings in the city to install infiltration wells to reduce or prevent flooding.
"Infiltration wells is one of the measures we take to anticipate the rainy season to minimize puddles in the city," said the Central Jakarta Vice Mayor Chaidir on Wednesday as quoted by Antara.
Thus, the city government calls for 178 owners and management of office buildings across Central Jakarta to discuss infiltration wells. Additionally, the government reminded them to conduct routine inspections on these wells or other general facilities.
"I hope that flooding anticipation in these private-owned buildings has been standardized under spatial planning of the city," he said. Meaning, these buildings must come with an infiltration well and a certificate of occupancy to ensure disaster anticipation.
The assistant of economy and development in the Central Jakarta Administrative City Secretariat Bakwan Ferizan Ginting mentioned that his side will take inventory of whether or not hundreds of office buildings in the city have infiltration wells.
According to Bakwan, these infiltration wells will reduce puddles caused by rain. It is especially important, he added, considering the rainy season started in November.
Central Jakarta's Human Settlements, Spatial Planning, and Land Office will also help supervise the citywide owners and management of office buildings to install and optimize the usage of infiltration wells.
"Thus, every infiltration wells installed in the office buildings in Central Jakarta will function well by the time the rainy season comes," he concluded.
