Ihsan Reliubun, Jakarta – Deputy chairman of the national campaign team for the Prabowo-Gibran presidential pair, Utje Gustaaf Patty, said the recent decision by the Constitutional Court's Ethics Council or MKMK did not affect the candidacy status of Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the 2024 election.

"We, as law-abiding people, know that the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding," Utje told Tempo on Tuesday evening, Nov. 7.

The MKMK, led by Jimly Asshiddiqie, ruled on Tuesday that Chief Justice Anwar Usman had violated the code of ethics by granting case Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 on the requirements for presidential candidates. The MKMK thus dismissed President Jokowi's brother-in-law from his position.

The Constitutional Court's ruling Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 made it possible for Gibran Rakabuming, who is President Jokowi's eldest son, to run for vice president in the upcoming election.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto announced Gibran as his running mate following the controversial ruling.

"If it turns out to be the judge's mistake, it will not change the decision. We are concerned about Anwar Usman, but the decision cannot be changed," Utje said, adding that the MKMK's decision also did not impact Gibran's electability.

The MKMK announced the dismissal of Anwar Usman from his position as Chief Justice on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 7, following investigations by Jimly Asshiddiqie, Bintan R. Saragih, and Wahiduddin Adams.
