Antara, Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo through Presidential Decree No. 24 of 2023 established a National Exports Task Force in response to global economic and geopolitical dynamics affecting national exports and the need to improve performance and strengthen the trade balance.
As quoted from the State Secretariat website, jdih.setneg.go.id, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the decree was signed on September 20, 2023.
The task force has a steering team and an execution team. The steering team consists of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, the Trade Deputy Minister I, and the Finance Deputy Minister II, as well as 11 other members of ministers and the chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
The steering team is tasked with formulating adaptive and responsive policies to boost exports, determining integrated, collaborative, and strategic steps, and practicing breakthrough steps to resolve problems quickly and precisely (business not as usual) that may arise in the process.
The steering team is also mandated to coordinate with relevant ministries/institutions, regional governments, and business actors/associations.
Meanwhile, the execution team will be determined by the Decree of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs as the chair of the steering team.
As of August 2023, Indonesia recorded a decline in export performance by 21.21 percent to US$22.00 billion compared to the same period last year. Cumulatively, exports for the January – August 2023 period amounted to US$171.52 billion.
