Antara, Jakarta – The West Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has declared an emergency alert status for drought in Bogor Regency, Bekasi Regency, and Garut Regency.
"We issue an emergency status for drought in three regions of West Java," said West Java BPBD spokesperson Hadi in Sarimukti, West Bandung, West Java, as reported from Antara on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
Hadi explained that the agency is still on alert to deal with the prolonged dry season that has hit 16 cities or districts in the province with a total of 109 sub-districts and 268 villages.
The agency has also supplied clean water totaling 5,249,480 liters to all drought-stricken areas in the province. "We are ensuring water supplies to the affected communities because that is the most important thing," Hadi said.
Apart from that, the agency also continues to coordinate with the government to provide technical equipment, such as water tankers, to be deployed to the impacted areas.
Hadi also said the West Java BPBD had performed various efforts to anticipate the impact of the prolonged dry season, including the construction of retention ponds to prevent drought from spreading further.
