Antara, Bogor – Head of Gunungsindur Subdistrict Dace Hatomi said residents have been complaining for the past seven years about wells allegedly being contaminated with fuel oil. According to him, the well water smelled like gasoline.
"At that time, the laboratory results showed that the water was still usable. It just smells, so people still need to buy water for drinking," Dace said as quoted from Antara on Friday, September 8, 2023.
As widely reported, the smell of gasoline came from the well that is the water source of residents in Pengasinan Village, Gunungsindur District. The well water also looks blue, similar to the color of Pertamax gasoline.
According to local residents, a total of 15 wells have been contaminated and are no longer usable. This situation has allegedly been going on for seven years.
Dace did not elaborate on what efforts the local government has made to address the problem. He argued that there should be compensation for the affected residents.
"Appropriately, there should be compensation for the affected residents," he said.
The Bogor Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has held mediation between the affected residents and the management of the nearby Public Fuel Station (SPBU).
The gas station management agreed to conduct a technical review into the alleged tank leak. The Bogor Satpol PP also demanded the fuel tank be emptied until the investigation is completed.
