Tika Ayu, Jakarta – Puan Maharani, the chairperson of the central executive board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), revealed that her party would announce the running mate for its presidential nominee, Ganjar Pranowo, on November 4, 2023.

"Inshallah, we will announce the presidential and vice presidential candidates," Puan said after meeting with the National Awakening Party (PKB) chairperson Muhaimin Iskandar in South Jakarta, Thursday, July 17, 2023.

Previously, Puan claimed PDIP had short-listed its potential vice presidential candidates into five. They are Sandiaga Uno, Erick Thohir, Andika Perkasa, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, and Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin.

Puan claimed that the visit to Muhaimin's residence was aimed at establishing intensive communication with PKB until October 2023, as stated by Cak Imin.

"This discussion will be carried out intensively until – as Cak Imin said earlier – October," she said.

For information, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates would be opened in October 2023. The election was slated to be held in 2024.

Talks related to the coalition of the two political parties, Cak Imin said, would end in mid-October. "That's the finish of all dynamic process we are doing today," he said.

At present, PKB is still having ties with the Gerindra Party through the Great Indonesia Awakening Coalition. Gerindra is determined to propose Prabowo as a potential presidential candidate from this coalition. However, the party chairperson has not yet announced who will be his running mate.
