Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) mentioned two figures worthy to be endorsed for the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. The PDIP faction head at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), Gembong Warsono, said they are Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming and Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini.
"Gibran has the ability to build on governance continuity from the previous government to the current one being run by Gibran by modifying deficiencies made by the previous [leader]," Gembong said at the Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday, July 17, 2023.
Meanwhile, he assessed that Risma pushed transformation to Surabaya during her two terms of office as a mayor.
This is not the first time that PDIP nominates Gibran and Risma for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Jakarta. Gembong previously revealed four names that were deemed fitting to replace former governor Anies Baswedan, including President Jokowi's eldest son and the Social Minister.
The two other names were Head of the National Procurement Agency (LKPP) Hendrar Prihadi and Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Azwar Anas.
Based on PDIP Jakarta's internal discussion, Gembong explained, the four figures are considered successful in leading their respective regions or institutions.
"The discussion listed regional heads from PDIP whom we consider to have succeeded in leading their regions, such as Mas Gibran, Bu Risma, Pak Hendrar who is now LKPP head, and Mas Anas who is now a Minister. This is the subject of discussion within PDIP," Gembong said on Monday, February 6, 2023.
