Maria Fransisca Lahur, Jakarta – To safeguard the 2024 General Elections, Indonesia's Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) have prepared a task force to ensure cyber-security during the national event.

"The election task force has been working since the beginning of the year, and will be dismantled after the inauguration of the new president and vice president," said Ariandi Putra, BSSN Spokesperson, in Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

He compared the task force with the ASEAN Summit and G20 task forces. He believed that BSSN was the first to arrive in Bali for G20 and was the last to go. That was a preventive measure to ensure the cyber-security during the event. BSSN also coordinated with other institutions such as the National Police, Indonesian Armed Forces, and other law enforcement institutions.

"We have established a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) with the General Elections Commissions (KPU) and the General Election Supervisory Agency," Ariadi explained.

According to Ariadi, the technical team of BSSN worked hard with KPU if they found a risk in the system. He explained that BSSN is authorized to strengthen the system, conducting early preventive measures, and assistance.

"We review thoroughly concerning the electronic system, we run trials and conduct information technology security assessment, then we deliver the full report to KPU," said Ariadi.

Meanwhile, concerning cyber attacks, Ariadi believed that no countries are ever free from them. "The attacks will not decrease, what matters is how we capitalize so the attacks do not become incidents," he added.
