Antara, Magelang – Chairman of the Central Java Muhammadiyah Tafsir encouraged people to refrain from abstaining from voting in the 2024 General Elections as it will not solve problems.
"Muhammadiyah members must not abstain from voting in the upcoming general election. Abstentions do not solve problems," he said in Magelang, Sunday, July 2, 2023.
Tafsir made the statement at the tabligh akbar or the great sermon held by Muhammadiyah of Bandongan District, Magelang Regency which was aimed at raising funds for the construction of the Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Building in the region.
He called on Muhammadiyah members to be actively involved in national political activities for the benefit of the people, the progress of Indonesia, and the organization. Tafsir mentioned that among the roles that members should take in national politics are leaders in the executive, legislative, and military.
The 2024 election, he said, is critical and decisive for the progress of the nation and state as it is an election for leaders who sit in the executive and legislative. The selected candidate must support the Muhammadiyah movement. "Electing a leader is mandatory. They are a substitute for prophethood who have the task of taking care of the world and the hereafter," Tasrif argued.
