Dicky Kurniawan, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) released data on the total number of motorized vehicles in the country in 2019-2021. The data shows an increase in the vehicle population every year.

Indonesia has 141,992,573 units of motorized vehicles in 2021, the agency reported. It is a significant surge compared to the 2020 figure, which stood at 136,137,451 units.

In 2019, the agency recorded there were 133,617,012 units of vehicles.

Of the total of 141 million vehicles in 2021, there were 120,042,298 motorcycles, 16,413,348 cars, 5,299,361 goods transport cars, and 237,566 buses.

It is thus not surprising that traffic congestions occur in several regions given the high number of vehicles moving in the country.

According to the report published by the agency, there was a surge in the number of motorized vehicles from 2015 to 2019, reaching 6.13 percent every year.

BPS also informed the length of available roads in Indonesia. In 2021, the country has 546,116 kilometer-long roads, consisting of 47,017 km of state roads, 54,551 km of provincial roads, and 444,548 km of regency or city roads.
