Xie Chuanjiao, Beijing – The last three electric multiple units customized for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in Indonesia started being shipped to the Southeast Asian country on Wednesday at Qingdao Port, Shandong province.
It was the last batch of trains and marked that China's first overseas high-speed railway project has finished its delivery process, according to manufacturer CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd, a subsidiary of State-owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corp.
The railway project is a landmark project under the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Indonesia. The whole project, including 11 sets of electric passenger trains and an inspection train, has employed Chinese standards, technology and equipment, said CRRC Qingdao Sifang.
The previous batches of the trains began shipping on August and now are on trial for future operation. The last trains are expected to reach the national capital, Jakartaa, in mid-May by shipping and then are to be transported to Bandung, West Java's provincial capital, by road.
The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is a 142-kilometer modern railroad and will be the first in Southeast Asia capable of handling trains traveling at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour. It will cut travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from more than three hours to just 40 minutes.
It will mainly facilitate the travelling of local people and give a boost to socio-economic development, the company said.
