Antara, Jakarta – The number of public transport passengers increased during the year-end holidays to nearly reaching its pre-pandemic level. The Transportation Ministry recorded 10.31 million passengers of public transport from December 19, 2022, until January 2, 2022.
"This number increased by 71.09 percent compared to the same period at the end of last year's holiday, which was 6.03 million passengers," said the ministry's spokesperson Adita Irawati in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
In detail, the highest number was air transport passengers up to 3.21 million, up by 66.36 percent from the same period in 2021. This was followed by land passenger numbers reaching 2.25 million (a 66.12-percent hike), ferry passengers at 2.05 million (a 47.25-percent hike), train passengers at 1.99 million (a 173.62-percent hike), and sea transportation passengers at 813,158 or a 30.37-percent hike.
Adita also reported that the traffic of public transport as of Monday, January 2, 2023, remained high at 679,338 passengers in all transportation modes.
"This number increased compared to Sunday with 660,502 passengers," she added.
She further encouraged people who are on traveling to stay vigilant. "Due to the warning of extreme weather occurring at the end of the year until early January 2023, we urge the public to stay alert, be careful, always be updated with the latest weather information, and keep prioritizing safety," Adita underlined.
