Flight traffic nearing pre-pandemic numbers as Christmas, New Year arrives

Joniansyah, Tangerang – AirNav Indonesia recorded a spike in flight traffic ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays across 150 airports across the country.

"Based on data we have collected from 150 major airports throughout Indonesia, AirNav Indonesia served a total of 4,201 flight traffic last Sunday, an increase of 22 percent compared to last year when we served 3,251 flight traffic," said AirNav Indonesia president director Polana Banguningsih Pramesti on December 20.

This statistic grew higher on Monday as flight traffic increased to 3,741 for domestic routes and 460 for international routes, which amounts to 72 percent. A number that is close to pre-pandemic numbers.

Eight airports recorded the most aircraft movements at the weekend with Soekarno-Hatta International Airport serving 974 flights and followed by I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali with 387 flights.

Surabaya Juanda Airport served 262 flights and the Hasanuddin Airport, Ujung Pandang, operated 252 flights. Meanwhile, Medan's Kualanamu Airport served 187 flights, Balikpapan's Sepinggan Airport served 157 flights, and Jayapura Airport, Sentani, served 115 flights.

"The total air traffic has started to return to normal, with 325 flights per day or the equivalent of 81 percent of normal conditions," said the AirNav Indonesia president.
