Police to guard 1,385 churches on Christmas

M Faiz Zaki, Jakarta – Head of Public Relation of the Metro Jaya Police Sr. Commr Endra Zulpan stated that the Police will provide security at 1,385 churches during Christmas. The move is part of the implementation of the Lilin Jaya 2022 Operation, which will commence on December 23, 2022, until January 2, 2023.

"We recorded that there are 1,385 churches in the Metro Jaya Police jurisdiction that will be secured by the police, with the help of our friends from the Army and from the regional government and certainly the public," Zulpan said on Monday, December 19, 2022.

The Lilin Jaya 2002 Operation will also be intended to provide security for the upcoming New Year. Zulpan confirmed that the Bomb Squad will be searching through churches in anticipation to terror attacks.

Zulpan refused to provide details about the churches that will be monitored. "We will not inform it on public, some churches do receive special attention for security, which means heightened security for the safety of the congregation," Zulpan said.

During the Lilin Jaya 2022 Operation, the Metro Jaya Police will mobilize 7,421 personnel, and establish 97 security outposts and 38 service outposts.

In addition to churches, several possible gathering areas and tourism sites will also be monitored. The police are preparing to anticipate massive public gatherings and traffic.

"There are also other locations prepared for new year activities such as Ancol, Kota tua, and PIK 1, PIK 2, Setu Babakan, and several other areas," Zulpan added.
