Two soldiers arrested with 75 kg of meth, 40,000 ecstasy pills

Apriadi Gunawan, Medan – The National Police have arrested two Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel allegedly in possession of 40,000 ecstasy pills and 75 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine smuggled from abroad in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.

Bukit Barisan regional military command (Kodam) spokesman Col. Rico Siagian confirmed the arrest. "They have been detained at the military command headquarters for questioning," he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

North Sumatra Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Hadi Wahyudi said the men were of the rank of first sergeant and first private and the arrest had been carried out by the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim).

"The provincial police provided back-up," Hadi said.

He said the two soldiers had picked up the contraband from a location in the city of Tanjung Balai on Sunday night and then headed toward Medan. They were stopped by the police on Monday at around 10 a.m. (dre)
