6,000 police personnel mobilized ahead of mass protest against fuel prices

Mutya Yuantisya, Jakarta – The Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Komarudin on Monday announced that there will be 6,100 joint police and military personnel mobilized to guard the mass protest held by a group called the 'PA212' in protesting against the increased subsidized fuel prices.

"For the entire Central Jakarta area, there are 6,100 joint military and police personnel," he said in a text message confirmation, Monday.

The demonstration against the increase in fuel prices is set to be held around the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area and in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) headquarters in Central Jakarta.

The Metro Jaya Traffic police chief commissioner Usman Latif said the closure of two of the city's main roads, Medan Merdeka Barat and Harmoni in Central Jakarta, would be carried out ahead of the demonstration today.

"Merdeka Barat and Harmoni will be closed," he confirmed.

Today, the masses of the 212 Alumni Association (PA 212) consisting of the National Movement to Guard Fatwa Ulama (GNPF Ulama) and the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) plan to take part in a demonstration to protest the increase in fuel prices in front of the Merdeka Palace.
