Arrijal Rachman, Jakarta – Central Jakarta Metro Police deployed 560 personnel to guard the students' demonstration against the draft bill on criminal code or RKUHP Tuesday afternoon, June 21, 2022, around the Horse Statue area.

"560 personnel were mobilized for today's agenda," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Sr. Comr. Komarudin in his statement today.

Head of Central Jakarta Traffic Police Comr. Purwanta said around 500 college students were expected to join today's rally. They reportedly would crowd the area starting at 14:00 Jakarta time.

Purwanta said his side had not yet prepared a traffic diversion policy in the area. Traffic policies and road closures would be situational.

Coordinator of the Social and Political Affairs of the University of Indonesia (UI) Student Executive Body (BEM), Melki Sedek Huang, said the protest which was intentionally held in coincidence with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's birthday was aimed at rejecting the bill currently being discussed by the House of Representatives (DPR).

As a symbolic act, they planned to give Jokowi a birthday gift in the form of a subpoena of RKUHP, urging the government to publish the latest bill given that the current circulating bill was the 2019 version.

If the latest draft bill on the criminal code is not published within 7 x 24 hours, the students will hold large-scale demonstrations that will be even larger than the 2019 protest.
