Antara, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in a written statement on Sunday asserts that the government is currently focused on preparing for the 2024 general elections or Pemilu.

"The government has prepared the schedule for the 2024 elections for presidential and vice presidential, legislations, and simultaneous regional elections. We will work professionally," said Mahfud MD on March 20.

He also said discussions taking place between political parties, House members, non-governmental organizations, and mass-organizations are normal practices.

Mahfud MD also acknowledged that there initially were plans to officially discuss the rumors of election postponement, but was eventually scrapped as he fears such a meeting will create negative public discourse.

"In actuality, the government wanted to explain to people that the government will stick to its initial plan [on running the election as scheduled]," he added.
